Corstiaan 1936 - 2008
Corstiaan died Friday morning, the 30th of May 2008, in Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in Amsterdam, as the result of a stroke.
During his 40-year career, Corstiaan drew the portraits of many celebrities. Sometimes people accused the artist, who took an average of a month to paint a portrait, of making the people too beautiful.
'These days there are more beautiful people than there used to be. Parents like to portay their children in the best possible way. But I also do get inspired by people who at first sight aren't fit for a beauty contest' was the reaction of the artist in his defense.
Corstiaan kept on drawing until his sight became limited due to a TIA shortly before his death. If I can't draw, life isn't worthwhile, he often said, according to his friend.
